Industry Quickfire With Actor Steve Evets

NAME AND PROFESSION

Steve Evets, Actor.

FAVOURITE ACTOR

Lassi, always on time, always knew her lines, always had fun on set, never let anyone down and never moaned, Lassi.

FAVOURITE FILMS

Memento, The Trial, the one with Anthony Perkins from Psycho and The Flight of the Navigator, great films everyone every time i go on say it’s like a new adventure i love meeting new people and every job believe it or not is the best one at the time so that’s everyone.

ACTING HIGHLIGHT

Being with the rest of the cast and crew from Looking for Eric, we were all in tuxedos, we were walking down the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival because Looking for Eric was in competition.  We were walking down the cassette with Eric Cantona and with Ken Loach and the lads we just started singing “Oh Ah Cantona” and it was just little moments in life when you’re walking down to red carpet, been in a film, stood next to Cantona and Ken Loach and we’re all singing that song that’s pretty much a good highlight.

DEALING WITH DIFFICULT MOMENTS AS AN ACTOR

Same as every other actor, drank me way through it, just be prepared to do any other job, i’ve done every job from laying carpets at midnight, order picking for you know catalogs, fruit picking and delivering, driving, sparking, labouring, yeah you name it i’ve done it and uh i will continue to do the same again if acting rolls dry up.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU IN LIFE?

Just being alive, just getting up in the day knowing that there’s a full day ahead of you and hopefully doing something positive with it. I got knifed once and was on a life support machine and I was in surgery, in theatre for 18 hours and the Dr put 32 units of blood through me, when I woke up I was on a live support machine but I remember opening my eyes and my first conscious thought was i’m alive, and there was a priest at the end of the bed waiting to give me the last rights, I couldn’t speak because otherwise i just told him to f**k off because i wasn’t going yet.

DREAM ACTING ROLL?

I haven’t got one, I just love what I do and I take every job on merry and don’t cover jobs that I haven’t done you know it’s that easy.

IDEAL DINNER PARTY GUESTS?

Albert Einstein would be very interesting uh Frank Zappa would be another one, maybe Marilyn Monroe she was interesting, exploited a lot but she’s interesting.

ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO THE 18 YEAR OLD YOU?

Don’t take your mum for a pint on mother’s day in 1987, that was a bad day.

ACTOR AND FILM GENRE TO BEST DESCRIBE YOUR LIFE

Well obviously Tom Cruise, you might have to pretty him up a bit you know, and he can do all my own stunts. Story of my life it’d have to be a f*****g farce wouldn’t it.

ADVICE FOR ACTORS WHO HAVE HAD NO WORK DURING THE PANDEMIC

What do you say to colleagues it’s been a f****r of a year, if you’re still going in the business after this year and you haven’t had much work then you got what it takes because you need to stick with it in this game through thick and thin, by christ this year has been bleak for not just actors for everybody so uh you’ve got to just keep going and do anything you can to keep your brain in gear and going and just just keep your brain ticking over you know rehearse your brain.
